About KainSolutions
Everyone has a beginning...
Upon entering the “real world” after college graduation, I assumed that my financial acumen was similar to that of my peers. My parents had instilled in me the usual: that I should avoid debt, save for retirement, and prioritize buying things that I needed over things that I wanted. But as basic as all of that sounds, it turns out that I truly did not understand or appreciate how to apply that basic wisdom.
In my early 20s, I thought debt meant credit cards. In my financially inexperienced mind, car and student loans were just the cost of living and weren’t necessarily considered “debt.” I was putting some of my paycheck into retirement but was unwittingly negating those savings by slowly but surely accruing a nice size balance on my credit card. And looking back, my definition of a need versus a want were very different from my parents’.
It's not about what you did, its where you are going...
It wouldn’t be until my time as an Army Officer waiting to be shipped out for my first overseas deployment that I was introduced to a personal finance book: Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace.” That book provided me with the roadmap that educated me to be more efficient with my money. Like so many others that read his book, I became a huge fan of Dave Ramsey. After six years on active duty, I would move to Indiana to marry and start a family. My wife and I have been very fortunate to have three beautiful and healthy children, to be part of a great community, and to remain strong in our faith. While in a leadership position for fifteen years in the military and subsequently with a Fortune 500 company, I often managed as many as 200 people at once. I was often the sounding board for many of my hardworking employees. They would trust me with information that pertained to their marriages, addictions, and finances. Many of their problems began with stress over their finances. This stress often affected every corner of their lives, namely, their mood, productivity and relationships. After hearing the same stories year after year, I decided to create my own financial coaching practice to help people implement the same financial solutions that I had learned.
